- Special needs
Special needs: [BLUE]Background: brought in stray by finder. Given blue dot on intake. Intake staff stated "very high energy, stressed, will bite at leash".Handling 6/3/26: At front of kennel on approach, jumping on door, loose body, very bouncy for leashing, pulled moderately outside. Once in hall, immediately jumps and bites at leash, tugging and regripping with mouth. Will occasionally stop when distracted and mostly did not bite leash once outside. In small yard, dog was soft, willingly came to handlers for petting, allowed all over touch including teeth check. Playful w/ toys, especially stuffed toy, bouncy, knows "sit". Engaged in tug play w/ toy and handlers. When returning indoors, dog started to bite leash again, would stop when distracted by toy. Returns to kennel but resumes leash tugging, takes treats in kennel.B A: Blue level due to leash biting, appears to be arousal/play related as dog will initiate tug play by bringing toy(s) to people. Dog is otherwise easy to handle, very affiliative, toy/play motivated. Juvenile, energetic dog w/ minimal training. Sweet with people. Kennel/shelter environment may be overwhelming/stressful for this dog.B P: Continue consistent outings with crew volunteers, focusing on arousal management around leash and exiting/re-entering kennel. Rewards based training and consistent structure are a must for this dog. Experienced adopters, quiet home, familiar with adequate decompression protocols, managing arousal levels, and with committed training plan preferred. Not a good fit for children currently, although dog-savvy, respectful teenagers 16 y/o+ may be manageable.B [2026-06-05 00:13:00.000]
Hi there! Carmel here.
I'm still young and full of beans, with a whole lot of love (and a few zoomies) saved up for the right person.
I'm on the bigger side — but honestly, that's just more of me to hug.
I do come with a few special needs, but please don't let that worry you — I just need a patient friend, and I pay it back tenfold.
I'd love to meet you. But if I'm not quite the one, maybe you could do me one tiny favor — print my bio and pop it up somewhere a future best friend might spot it. Who knows, I might see you at the park someday! Either way, thank you for stopping by and giving me a moment. It really did mean a lot. — Carmel 🐾
