Well, hello! Birdie in TN here.

I'm a quiet girl who's still learning the ropes, but give me patience and a cozy corner, and my heart opens right up.

My file says I've got energy to spare — adventure buddy applications now open.

I'm a youngster — a little goofy, very teachable, and absolutely ready to grow up beside someone wonderful.

I'm a Shelbyville local, just waiting on the right person.

Here's the thing — I can't tell if we'd truly click until I know a little about you. Sign in (it's free) and I'll size up your place, say hello to any dogs you've got — or be your very first — and give you my honest read on whether we'd be a match.

Who knows — by Halloween I might be napping on somebody's couch. I'd love it to be near you, one way or another.

Thanks for spending a minute with me. I'll be right here, tail ready, hoping it's you. — Birdie in TN

She had to give up Birdie due to life changes beyond her control. Doing the right thing, she wanted Birdie to come to us so she'd get a great forever home. Birdie is such a sweet little girl, happy, friendly, and playful with other small young dogs. She does not care for cats and will bark at them and probably chase them if she can get to them. She's never been around big dogs, so if you have a dog over 25 pounds, she may not do well in your home. The one thing we can tell you is that she loves to play and will play with multiple dogs at once. She loves running in the yard and greeting each new day with gusto! If you are looking for sunshine in one small body, then this is your girl! Our must-haves for beautiful Birdie include: A fenced yard Another or two young (3 years or under), small dog(s) for her to play with Someone who can be home more often than not; she would love your company too Please no apartments, high-rises, or condos because, like other dachshunds, she loves to bark when she hears someone close to her home Oh, she has one blue eye too, in case you didn't see that in the picture. This one is sweetness overload! ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten. If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal. We cannot adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures. To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3. Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form. Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
