Hi, new friend! Baxter here.

I've mastered the art of the perfect nap, and at my weight, I'm basically a furry meditation cushion—though I'll absolutely tell you off with my gums if you're doing life wrong.

They wrote that I love to play. Understatement. I'd hike, fetch, and nap with you, in that order.

I won't fib — there's a little grey on my muzzle. "Older" just means I'm past the wild puppy chaos and all in on cozy company.

I've been holding down the fort in Santa Clara, hoping someone like you would wander by.

Here's the thing — I can't tell if we'd truly click until I know a little about you. Sign in (it's free) and I'll size up your place, say hello to any dogs you've got — or be your very first — and give you my honest read on whether we'd be a match.

With a little luck, Labor Day could be my first one in a real home — possibly with you, or with someone you send my way.

Either way, thank you for seeing me today. That part mattered more than you know. — Baxter

About Baxter

Baxter is a sweet senior boy who joined our rescue after his family of 11 years moved out of the country. At just 4.5 pounds, he is a tiny little guy with a big personality. He is adjusting to his new life and would love nothing more than to spend his golden years with a family to call his own. Baxter is a bit hot and spicy and is not shy about letting you know if you are misbehaving. Since he has no teeth, his "corrections" are all gums, loud sounds, and a little slobber. It is more comedy than anything else. Energy Level? Low. House trained? Yes. However, we have used belly bands to discourage marking, and it is working! Describe how they are on a leash? He walks nicely on a leash, but also doesn't mind a good push in a stroller Describe how they are with other dogs? Baxter is great with all dogs, big and small, and even tolerated a large breed puppy. He is currently fostered with several dogs Have they been around cats or other animals? How were they? Baxter is good with cats. Commands they know? It's time for dinner :-) What are their favorite things? He loves to explore the backyard and enjoy the sun. What do they need to work on? He is slow to warm up to new people, very spicy, and will try to gum you and slobber all over you since he doesn't have any teeth to bite you with. How are they when left alone? How long have they been left alone? He's fine left alone. We leave him in a pen when he is alone. He does not potty in his pen. Where do they sleep? He sleeps in his bed in a pen. What is their ideal home? Baxter would do best with someone who appreciates his spicy little personality. With new people or if he feels someone is fussing with him too much, he may growl or give a gummy snap warning. Remember, he has no teeth, so it is mostly sounds and slobber. He would be happy in a home with or without other dogs. Baxter is a simple guy who enjoys the easy life. Give him a fluffy bed, good food, and a calm home, and he will be perfectly content.
