Psst… hi! Basil here.

I'm finally learning that the world outside my crate is full of gentle possibilities, and I'm eager to show you the devoted, affectionate friend I've always wanted to be.

My notes say I'm a world-class cuddler, and I'd like that on the record.

Born and (almost) raised right here in Seattle.

Here's the thing — I can't tell if we'd truly click until I know a little about you. Sign in (it's free) and I'll size up your place, say hello to any dogs you've got — or be your very first — and give you my honest read on whether we'd be a match.

If all goes well, I could be curled up with my new pack by Halloween — maybe yours, whether you adopt me or just help me get noticed.

Thanks for spending a minute with me. I'll be right here, tail ready, hoping it's you. — Basil

About Basil

Animal Information: Basil is a 5-year-old shepherd/hound mix who was adopted from a WA Shelter in early 2021. Unfortunately, due to changes in his owner's health and living situation, he has been spending up to 21 hours a day in a crate. His family made sincere efforts to rehome him privately, but as their moving deadline approached, they reached out to DGS for help. Basil is an affectionate, eager-to-please dog who is craving attention and connection. He is friendly with people and does well with other dogs after proper introductions. He has also lived with a cat and loved him. Basil is both house-trained and crate-trained, and he loves car rides. Because his recent routine has mostly consisted of brief potty breaks and occasional short walks, his leash manners could use some improvement. With a bit of patience and regular activity, he has great potential to thrive in a more engaged and loving environment. Foster Profile: Basil loves people! He's super sweet, sociable, and playful with me. He's wary of my dog who wants to play with him, but is doing well on walks together. I think he'd thrive as an only dog or in a house with another neutral dog and slow introductions. Basil is crate and potty trained. He already knows a few commands such as sit, down, and crate. He walks well on leash, with reminders to heal, though he will pull at times, especially when he sees critters outside. He could use some refresher training but he's food and people motivated, and I think he would really enjoy more intensive training. Basil has a great personality that I think will really shine once he has some time to settle down and gain more experience. Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $575 which includes spay/neuter, core vaccinations Rabies and DPPV per AVMA standards, any indicated preventative care, microchip with lifetime registration, and recent health check with a veterinarian. Adoption fee may be tax deductible as Dog Gone Seattle is a 501c3 organization (ID 81-5101166). Apply Online: www.doggoneseattle.org/adoption-application Animal History: This dog was surrendered to our rescue when his owners could no longer care for him. He joined the rescue 05/01/26 and will be available for adoption in the greater Seattle area once evaluated in foster care.
