Oh, hello you! Max (VA) here.

I'm eight years old and searching for someone to share my couch with—someone who'll let me follow them room to room and accept my kisses once I know your heart.

I'm the calm one (it's in writing). A quiet home and a patient hand and I'm yours.

I do come with a few special needs, but please don't let that scare you off — I just need a patient friend, and I pay it back tenfold.

I've been holding down the fort in Atlanta, hoping someone like you would wander by.

Here's the thing — I can't tell if we'd truly click until I know a little about you. Sign in (it's free) and I'll size up your place, say hello to any dogs you've got — or be your very first — and give you my honest read on whether we'd be a match.

With a little luck, Labor Day could be my first one in a real home — possibly with you, or with someone you send my way.

Either way, thank you for seeing me today. That part mattered more than you know. — Max (VA)

About Max (VA)

Max is a sweet 8 year-old, 20 lb. male rat terrier mix who has a calm temperament and personality. He can be a little shy at first but once he is comfortable he is more than ready sit with you and give you kisses. He wants to be where his people are and loves to get attention. Max gets along with other dogs and with the 2 cats in his foster home. He would do best in a home with adults and older children -- he is not up for the challenge of living with young humans. He is potty trained and walks well on a leash. Once he is done outside he is ready to come back inside and be a couch potato. Max is crate trained but can be left loose in the house. Max had surgery on his left hip to have cancer removed. A biopsy reported no cancer in the remaining tissue and a 90% probability he is cancer free. With that being said he has weakness in his back end which causes him to be a little slow going up and down stairs but outside he does fine. The vet thinks he may have spinal nerve damage that cannot be repaired. Max struggles with incontinence -- in the morning, he sprinkles urine and drops feces while walking. He has no control over this and does not realize it is happening. Sadly, the vet does not believe this can be cured, only managed with pads and diapering. If you have a special spot in your heart for a dog like Max he would love to show you what a special boy he is. For more photos, see https://imageevent.com/newrattitude/max
