Breed

Oh — hi! Rye here.

Small, spicy, and fully convinced I'm a Great Dane.

My notes say I'm a world-class cuddler, and I'd like that on the record.

I'm a youngster — a little goofy, very teachable, and absolutely ready to grow up beside someone wonderful.

I'm on the bigger side — which, if you ask me, is just more of me to hug.

I do come with a few special needs, but please don't let that scare you off — I just need a patient friend, and I pay it back tenfold.

Born and (almost) raised right here in Oakland.

Here's the thing — I can't tell if we'd truly click until I know a little about you. Sign in (it's free) and I'll size up your place, say hello to any dogs you've got — or be your very first — and give you my honest read on whether we'd be a match.

If all goes well, I could be curled up with my new pack by Thanksgiving — maybe yours, whether you adopt me or just help me get noticed.

Thanks for stopping by and giving me a moment — it honestly made my whole day. — Rye

About Rye

This dog is available to meet by appointment only. Sweet? Check. Sensitive? Check. Guaranteed to make you smile? Absolutely. Rye is a handsome 2-year-old, 64-pound pittie mix with a wonderfully goofy side. He loves chasing tennis balls, showing off his zoomies, and soaking up affection. He also has a very nice sit and takes treats with a soft mouth. At the shelter, Rye looks to his people for direction and finds comfort in them when something startles him. He can become overstimulated during enthusiastic interactions, so he'll do best with someone who can recognize when he needs a break and help him settle with calm, gentle guidance. Despite his sturdy bowling ball physique, Rye is a surprisingly gentle and low-contact player with other dogs. He could enjoy a well-matched canine sibling or be your solo dog with the occasional playdate. Rye would do best with appropriately matched dogs or as a solo dog with well-matched canine friends. Please submit an adoption questionnaire to meet him.
