The rescue’s notes on Rusty

Rusty is a 2 year, 57 pound, mixed breed (possibly Vizsla). If ever there was a pup in need of a happy ever after, it's Rusty. Why? Check out his background below. Personality: friendly, affectionate, resilient, active, loves water, good in car Good with: people; will do best as only dog Training: knows basic commands such as "sit" and "no"; leash trained Estimated date of birth: September 2023 Weight: 57 pounds Medical: up to date on vaccinations, neutered, microchipped Location: Currently located with a foster in Texas, but if adopted, will come to the NJ area on our next monthly transport. Background: This boy was the last dog to be pulled from the shelter's kill list. Why? It certainly wasn't because he was a bad boy. Instead, it was because of his eye. He had a growth in his eye that was bloody and obscuring his vision. Others didn't want to risk taking on his vet bills, but we couldn't let this sweet soul be euthanized. We got him to a vet and were able to have the growth surgically removed. We then got the good news that the growth was not cancerous!!! Yay for Rusty! But... Since then, Rusty has been with his foster, just waiting for someone to fall in love and take him home. He gets along wonderfully with people; he has female friends, so we think he prefers females. He did well with males, but needs to meet first. He's a higher-energy boy (who wouldn't be after regaining sight!) and would do great with an active family. He's good on a leash and in the car. He's already picked up on a few commands, such as 'sit,' and he understands 'no.' Rusty is more than ready to find his forever home and start a new chapter of life - one filled with love and happiness!
