Special needs: [BLUE]Background: brought in as a stray, was fine with the possible finders but became very fractious as soon as taken away from them.B Given red dot at intake O:B At front of kennel, worried eyes but stayed sitting at the front and was easy to leash.B Good on leash, with mild tension.B Eliminates x 1.B Comes over to original handler and takes a treat gently but much preferred the second handler who he has interacted with several times before.B Accepts pets around his head and neck from both handlers but was much more interactive with the known handler.B Tried to climb in lap, maybe wanted to hump.B Closed mouth thru all the interactions and was a little flinchy when petted over the rump where he has irritated skin.B Very long nails.B No interest in toys.B Easy return to kennel and leash removed by hand. A:B Blue level, still not 100% relaxed but does affiliate.B Probably needs time to trust new people P: Adopters should be aware that they may need to visit several times for him to begin to connect.B Structure and consistency in new home will be important.B Unknown how he'd do with children[2026-04-21 14:40:00.000]
Hi there! Poet here.
I've got a feeling you and I could be pretty great together.
I'm on the bigger side — but honestly, that's just more of me to hug.
I do come with a few special needs, but please don't let that worry you — I just need a patient friend, and I pay it back tenfold.
I'd love to meet you. But if I'm not quite the one, maybe you could do me one tiny favor — print my bio and pop it up somewhere a future best friend might spot it. Who knows, I might see you at the park someday! Either way, thank you for stopping by and giving me a moment. It really did mean a lot. — Poet 🐾
The rescue’s notes on Poet
This dog is available to meet by appointment only. Sweet, gentle Poet is on the lookout for his forever family after being found stray and in tough shape. He is now making great progress in learning to trust and make new friends, displaying his impressive leash walking skills and enjoying the affection of our dedicated volunteers. Poet would be best suited for an adult home with experienced, committed adopters willing to take it slow, help him continue to build confidence and show him the world safely. Poet is a 6-year-old, 78-pound pittie mix. He would do well with appropriately matched dog companions or as a solo dog with dog friends. Please submit an adoption questionnaire to meet him.
