Special needs: [YELLOW]Background: Protective Custody 4/22/26. Dog was found during encampment cleanup. Has been in shelter 5 days. Yellow dot assigned at intake. Intake staff reported that dog was shy but easy to handle. First time meeting both handlers for handling evaluation on 4/27/26.O: Dog was standing mid-kennel. Dog approached the door and stood calmly with head lowered while handler draped leash on. Followed handler out into the ward. Loose leash walking down the hallway with intermittent moderate pulling. Relaxed body language with loose tail held even with spine. Walking out into the parking lot, dog startled and lowered tail at a water hose sprayed nearby. Continued walking with low tail, lowered body language, and soft, furrowed brow. In the yard, dog eliminated 1x, walked around slowly while looking out at fences. Some sniffing. Approached handlers with some sweet talk and treats as encouragement. Took high value treats with a very soft mouth. Allowed all over handling of head, neck, chest, legs, belly, tail. Turned slightly away with teeth check. Closed mouth and slightly stiffened with some handling around belly. Took treats with very gentle mouth. No interest in toys. Loose leash walking back to the ward. Backed away and resisted leash pressure on entering the ward. Came forward as handler crouched and spoke to her, then followed handler into kennel. A: Yellow for handling. Timid, low energy. Difficult to assess personality as dog appears to be shut down and owner searching. Appeared slightly uncomfortable with some handling, which may change as she acclimates to the shelter. P: Make available for adoption. Recommend patient rewards-based approach to training. Dog may not have experience living indoors; may need time to warm up to new people. Unknown how dog will behave around children. Given dog's somewhat timid nature, dog savvy older children might be okay. Adopters should go slowly and allow this dog to approach on her own to develop trust and confidence.[2026-04-28 02:41:00.000]

Well, hello! Inari here.

I've got a feeling you and I could be pretty great together.

I'm on the bigger side — but honestly, that's just more of me to hug.

I do come with a few special needs, but please don't let that worry you — I just need a patient friend, and I pay it back tenfold.

I'd love to meet you. But if I'm not quite the one, maybe you could do me one tiny favor — print my bio and pop it up somewhere a future best friend might spot it. Who knows, I might see you at the park someday! Either way, thank you for stopping by and giving me a moment. It really did mean a lot. — Inari 🐾

The rescue’s notes on Inari

This dog is eligible for our Home Begins Here program. Ask an Adoption Staff member for details! Inari is a 6-year-old, 63-pound pittie gal who has quickly become a foster-home favorite. While new places and unfamiliar people can be a little overwhelming at first, once she feels comfortable, her sweet and easygoing personality shines. The calm, gentle dog we met at the shelter has proven to be just as relaxed at home. Inari enjoys a morning stroll, happily entertains herself with toys, and is content to spend the day napping while her people are away. When you come home, she'll greet you with joyful tail wags and be ready to relax by your side. Whether you're enjoying dinner, winding down on the couch, or soaking up some quiet time, Inari is a polite companion who loves scritches and being near her people. She's gentle taking treats, calm around the house, and an all-around easy dog to live with. Around other dogs, Inari mostly keeps to herself and may do well with an appropriately matched dog, or as a solo dog with friends.
