ASH

Pit Bull Terrier · Young · Female · Large

Camarillo, CA

Oh — hi! ASH here.

I'm still young and full of beans, with a whole lot of love (and a few zoomies) saved up for the right person.

I'm on the bigger side — but honestly, that's just more of me to hug.

I'd love to meet you. But if I'm not quite the one, maybe you could do me one tiny favor — print my bio and pop it up somewhere a future best friend might spot it. Who knows, I might see you at the park someday! Either way, thank you for stopping by and giving me a moment. It really did mean a lot. — ASH 🐾

The rescue’s notes on ASH

This sweet, social girl is on our Call to Action list because we know she’s going to need a very special home, and we don’t want her to be overlooked. Her biggest challenge is her vocalization - when she’s overwhelmed or anxious, she can become extremely loud (it can sound like she’s literally screaming), which makes both shelter life and some home environments difficult for her.She has so many wonderful qualities. She’s petite, affectionate, and has previously lived with other dogs and cats successfully. In a previous home, she even loved curling up with the kids and being part of the family. That said, she can also become over-aroused during play or interaction, which has led to behaviors like grabbing clothing and being a bit too rough, especially for younger children. Because of this, she may do best in a home without small kids or with experienced handlers who can help guide her.?? What She Needs ?? She’s looking for someone who:Has patience and a sense of humorIsn’t restricted by close neighbors or noise concernsCan provide structure, exercise, and consistencyIs open to working through her behaviors (and possibly working with a trainer)Is home often, or able to help her gradually learn how to settleWe’re still trying to learn what helps her most - it may be time to decompress, increased enrichment, a canine companion, training support, or even behavioral medication. What we do know is that she needs someone willing to meet her where she’s at and help her feel safe.Underneath the stress is a loving, social dog who wants connection. If you’re someone who sees the potential in a dog who needs a little extra support, she could be an incredibly rewarding companion.Update 4/10: Dog has been elevated to priority 1 due to a bite incident that occured with a volunteer today - the volunteer had taken the dog to a play yard, when Ash started biting and tugging on her sweatshirt (a behavior we have seen her do before), and ultimately bit her on the hand causing a minor injury (skin nick on hand that drew blood). Unfortunately, this means she will need to be under isolation/quarantine due to state law - she may be released from this quarantine period on 4/20. Interested in fostering or adopting?
