Stated dog was easy to leash, walk, spend time with in the yard, and rekennel. Dog was relaxed with handling and accepted pets around head and back. Dog lowered head slightly when unleashing, but stayed generally relaxed and easy to rekennel. Moving to yellow.B Recommend volunteers take care with handling around his ears d/t possible ear infection.[2026-06-03 17:13:00.000]
Psst… hi! Horton here.
I won't fib — I've got a little grey on my muzzle. But being older just means I'm past the wild puppy stuff and all about cozy company and slow, happy mornings.
I'm on the bigger side — but honestly, that's just more of me to hug.
I do come with a few special needs, but please don't let that worry you — I just need a patient friend, and I pay it back tenfold.
I'd love to meet you. But if I'm not quite the one, maybe you could do me one tiny favor — print my bio and pop it up somewhere a future best friend might spot it. Who knows, I might see you at the park someday! Either way, thank you for stopping by and giving me a moment. It really did mean a lot. — Horton 🐾
The rescue’s notes on Horton
Horton is an adult Pit Bull Terrier mix weighing 71 pounds. He is a reserved, initially stoic boy who prefers to take his time getting to know new people and environments. At first, Horton enjoys exploring independently, but once trust begins to build, he finds comfort in the affection and companionship of his handlers. Horton is looking for an adult-only home with experienced, committed adopters who can give him the time and space he needs to decompress, bond, and continue socializing safely at his own pace. Horton would prefer to be the only pet in the home so he can fully focus on building a strong connection with his people.
Horton is listed by Oakland Animal Services in Oakland, ca. Adoptions are handled directly by the rescue.
