- Special needs
Special needs: [BLUE]Background: brought in stray from the field. Given blue dot at intake due to fear and not walking on leash.B Handling 5/18/26: Sitting at front on approach, sniffed treats but did not eat. Handler sat down and opened door, presented leash. Dog backed up, sat down. Sniffed leash on floor, sniffed handler's hand. Handler slowly formed large loop and slid leash over dog. Dog got up and followed handler slowly out. Stops when he feels leash pressure. Made it all the way to sally port door, but several people were in sally port and dog froze. Dog lay down and would not move. Eventually got dog to follow handler partway back down the hallway towards zone 2, but stalled again and refused to move. Second handler retrieved towel, handlers able to lift dog onto towel and drag towel back to dog's ward. Dog had to be coaxed to walk back into kennel. No issues unleashing.B A: Dog is extremely stressed in shelter environment. Will walk on leash with a lot of patience, but appears to get overwhelmed with noise/new people/new sounds. Dog freezes in response to stress. Not ready for adoption yet.P: Continue consistent handling, going slowly with dog. Dog has attended PG and has improved a bit w/ walking on leash. Reassess by end of week. Unable to observe dog's temperament/personality adequately due to FAS at this time. [2026-05-18 18:43:00.000]
Oh — hi! Blanket here.
I'm still young and full of beans, with a whole lot of love (and a few zoomies) saved up for the right person.
I'm on the bigger side — but honestly, that's just more of me to hug.
I do come with a few special needs, but please don't let that worry you — I just need a patient friend, and I pay it back tenfold.
I'd love to meet you. But if I'm not quite the one, maybe you could do me one tiny favor — print my bio and pop it up somewhere a future best friend might spot it. Who knows, I might see you at the park someday! Either way, thank you for stopping by and giving me a moment. It really did mean a lot. — Blanket 🐾
The rescue’s notes on Blanket
Blanket is 3-year-old American Pit Bull Terrier weighing 72 pounds. He is a very shy, sensitive boy who has had a difficult time adjusting to shelter life. When overwhelmed, he tends to freeze in response to stress and is still building confidence with leash walking, though he's shown some nice progress during his foster stay. Blanket is looking for patient, experienced adopters familiar with fearful or shy dogs who can give him plenty of time and space to decompress and settle in at his own pace. A quiet, adult-only home would be ideal for him. Blanket would do well with appropriately matched dogs or as a solo dog with dog friends outside the home.
