- Special needs
Special needs: [BLUE]Background: Stray intake on 5/13/26. Dog was seen straying in the neighborhood around the shelter for several days prior to being caught by ACO. First time meeting handler for handling evaluation on 5/14/26.O: Dog was standing at the front of the kennel. Soft face, lowered untucked tail. Avoidant of leash loop. Handler entered the kennel and crouched while speaking. Dog took one step forward and allowed pets as handler placed leash loop over his head. Trailed behind handler out to the yard. Dropped leash in yard. Dog walked away to sniff. Eliminated x2. No interest in tossed toys or balls. After approximately 5 minutes, approached handler for treats, taken gently from hand. Dog tolerated all touch. Tail tucked throughout interaction and backed away when handler stopped for consent check. Maintained soft face throughout. A: Timid and anxious. Energy level difficult to assess as dog appears shutdown. Treat motivated. Unknown if dog knows any commands. Blue for in-shelter handling d/t initial timid approach to handler and avoidance of handling. P: Crew outings. Reassess within one week. Update 5/21/26: Dog has been relaxed with handling from multiple playgroup volunteers and staff as well as Light Blue volunteers. He is beginning to play during playgroup. Make available for adoption. Recommend patient rewards-based approach to basic training (leash walking, basic commands) with structured and slow introduction to new environments/people. May do best in an adult only home or with older dog-savvy older kids as dog is somewhat timid and anxious. [2026-05-21 03:41:00.000]
Hey, friend! Kieran here.
I'm still young and full of beans, with a whole lot of love (and a few zoomies) saved up for the right person.
I do come with a few special needs, but please don't let that worry you — I just need a patient friend, and I pay it back tenfold.
I'd love to meet you. But if I'm not quite the one, maybe you could do me one tiny favor — print my bio and pop it up somewhere a future best friend might spot it. Who knows, I might see you at the park someday! Either way, thank you for stopping by and giving me a moment. It really did mean a lot. — Kieran 🐾
The rescue’s notes on Kieran
Kieran, a 1-year-old 53-pound shepsky is very submissive and timid in interactions with people, but has been steadily coming out of his shell with the support of well-matched dog friends. He is gentle by nature and takes treats softly, showing a kind and careful temperament. On leash, Kieran is easygoing and calm. He will do best in a home or environment with patient, experienced adopters who can give him the time, space, and reassurance he needs to continue building confidence at his own pace. Kieran is ideal in a home with appropriately matched dogs or as a solo dog with dog friends outside the home.
