Special needs: [YELLOW]Background: Owner surrender on 5/18/26. One of 6 dogs from the same litter. This dog and siblings are 2 years old at the date of surrender. Owner reported that male dogs in the litter would fight with one another, but not with the females. No owner surrender form filled out. Yellow dot on intake. Intake staff noted that dog was nervous throughout, but allowed everything. First time meeting both handlers for handling evaluation on 5/20/26.O: Dog was standing mid-kennel. Lowered head, tail tucked. Backed away from open door. Came forward when handler crouched at the open door and spoke to him. Avoidant of leash. Came forward for pets around head while handler slowly placed leash over his head. Followed handler out into the ward. Very loose leash walking down the hallway and to the yard. Tail lowered but not tucked. In the yard, dog approached both handlers slowly with soft face, pulled back ears, closed mouth, low wagging tail. Dog allowed handler to pet around his chin then stepped forward to place head in handlerbx00#25;s hands for pets all over head. Stepped closer for more pets after a consent check. Climbed up to drape his chest and front legs over second handlerbx00#25;s lap. Relaxed with wagging tail for all over handling of head, neck, chest, legs, belly. Allowed teeth check. Approached both handlers several times for all over pets. Knows sit. Took treats with a soft mouth. Followed a tossed toy and mouthed, but did not pick up. Loose leash walking back to kennel. No issues rekenneling.B A: Timid and anxious, but very affiliative and appears to enjoy close physical contact and pets. Medium energy. Treat motivated. Knows sit and walks with loose leash. Yellow for in-shelter handling d/t initial timid approach to handlers.B P: Make available for adoption. Recommend patient rewards-based approach to basic training (leash walking, basic commands) with structured and slow introduction to new environments/people. May do best in an adult only home or with older dog-savvy older kids as dog is somewhat timid and anxious.B B [2026-05-21 03:19:00.000]
