The rescue’s notes on Lena Lou

Lena Lou is a sweet, scrappy, little, terrier mix, about 3 years old, who has already proven she's a survivor. She was found wandering the busy streets of Atlanta after weeks on her own, eventually caught in a trap the morning some serious tornadoes hit the area. We don't know the full story before that, but what we do know is that this small but mighty girl is smart, observant, and tougher than she looks. She is fully house trained and does well on leash. Lena has settled nicely into a home with a pack of dogs of all ages and two cats. She's respectful of most of her foster siblings and has found her place in the group, though she sometimes needs gentle reminders about cat manners and can try to push boundaries with a few of the other dogs. She's improving every day and shows she's eager to learn. Lena is still extremely skittish when she first meets new people - she'll often hide until she feels safe. Once she trusts you, though, she lights up. She loves to be held, gives sweet kisses when she's comfortable, and has the most adorable big bat ears that stay perked, taking in every sound around her. She's getting braver with walks and car rides, and she's starting to come when called more reliably. At night, she happily goes into her crate and finds it comforting, but she does get anxious if crated during the day for short absences, so she'll do best in a home where she can be with her people most of the time or have a gradual, patient introduction to alone time. Lena Lou is a dog who rewards patience. She's not the instantly outgoing, "easy" dog, but for someone kind, consistent, and willing to move at her pace, she has a lot of love and loyalty to give. She needs a calm, understanding home that will continue her socialization and give her the TLC she deserves after everything she's been through.
