The rescue’s notes on SMOKEY

Smokey is a gorgeous 5-year-old German Shepherd — smart, loyal, affectionate, and so ready to be loved.This handsome boy has so much heart. He wants connection deeply and is looking for a person of his own who will help him feel secure, loved, and understood. It doesn’t take long before his tender side shines through. He is wonderfully affectionate and has a way of melting into pets, leaning in close, flopping down for a belly rub, and soaking up every bit of love he can get. He is eager to engage, learn, play, and be part of your life.He is a bright, food-motivated dog who enjoys training and learns quickly. He already knows sit and paw/shake, seems familiar with down, and even started to crawl when guided with a treat. He enjoys tug, chewing on toys or a bully stick, and will even join in for a short game of fetch.   On leash, he is generally easy to walk, with some occasional pulling when an interesting smell catches his attention. Like many shepherds, he is alert to movement and can be reactive to passing bikes, so he will do best with someone who can continue positive, consistent leash work and help him build confidence around triggers.  He rides well in a car but gets very excited when it is time to get out of the car, so a tie-down or secure car setup is recommended for safe outings. This beautiful boy is loving, intelligent, playful, and deeply affectionate. He is not just looking for a home; he is looking for someone to belong to. With structure, patience, and a person who sees his potential, he has all the makings of a devoted companion who will reward your love many times over.
