Columbus — The social calendar received a welcome shake-up this week with the arrival of a new dog on the street, an event the established residents are treating with the gravity it deserves.
Protocol, as ever, was observed: a slow approach, a respectful circling, and a thorough exchange of the day’s most important information at the base of the nearest fence post. Early reports describe the newcomer as “promising” and “surprisingly good at this.”
“We don’t hand out friendship lightly,” said one senior member of the block, tail betraying her objectivity. “But I have a good feeling about this one.” A formal play session is expected to follow once the humans stop talking and let everyone get on with it.
